Valentine’s Day is coming up this Friday, Feb. 14. If you have a date or a partner, then you may be eagerly looking towards the end of the week. If you’re single, however, you might be feeling indifferent towards the holiday or even feeling self-conscious if you don’t have plans. Well, not to worry; being single on Valentine’s Day is totally fine. Here are just a few reasons why:

                      1. You don’t need to spend money on flowers or chocolates.

Consider it money saved––you don’t have to buy a bouquet of roses or a pricey box of Godiva. Instead, you could use that money to get yourself a nice meal somewhere in the city, or if you want, you could buy yourself some chocolates to enjoy on Friday.

                      2. You don’t need to spend time planning the perfect date.

Think about it: If you wanted to impress someone on Valentine’s Day, you’d probably spend a great deal of time meticulously planning an extravagant dinner or the perfect outing. Instead, you could sleep in on Friday and gain some well-needed rest!

                      3. You can hang out with your friends.

Haven’t seen your friends recently? You can take the Friday to catch up with them and perhaps even head out and do something fun! Consider going out to watch a movie with your friends––some new movies out this week include “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” and “Fantasy Island.”

                      4. You can take time to treat yourself.

Go out into the city! Eat some new foods! Start a new book! Do something that you’ll really enjoy. Take the opportunity to really treat yourself; it doesn’t have to be anything fancy––just do something that pleases you!

                      5. You won’t be alone.

There’s a huge number of people on campus who are in the same boat as you. It’s not as though everyone around you will be going on dates, and you’ll be all alone. Come to the realization that, while people will be going out on Valentine’s Day, there’s a big community of people who will be hanging out with friends or doing their own thing.
